Welcome to the Eco web page at Sandy Lane School.
These pages hold information about the eco-work that Sandy Lane are doing.
This term we have been very busy working on activities to help us to apply for our Eco Schools Green Flag. New rotas have been drawn up for Eco-reps to help with lots of activities including feeding the worms and plant care. The whole school have been growing vegetables which have been growing really well.

We were delighted to find out this week that we have been awarded our Eco Schools Green Flag award after our assessment the previous week. We look forward to receiving our flag soon. Well done to everyone at school who has been involved in transforming Sandy Lane into an EcoSchool.
Green Day On Friday 10th July it was national Green Day so as Sandy Lane is an Eco school working towards our Green Flag we decided to do something to make our school even more eco friendly. If you look at the corridors of Sandy Lane you will see a trail of footprints covering the walls, these are our family pledges which I’m sure you know about. On these footprints we have written something that we can do to be greener. E.g. turn off the lights when I leave a room, switch off the television when I’ve finished, recycle more and walk to school. A selection of children also built a bughouse which is shaped like a house and is made out of wood, brick and stones for bugs to live in between. The nursery also built a fantastic scarecrow made out of recycled materials and old clothes to re-use them. Our school is now even more eco friendly and we hope to get our Green Flag soon! By Kate 6P
News Last year we collected all the rubbish from our packed lunches over a few days and found that we collected five black sacks.
This term we are working on reducing our wrappings. Please can you help us ?
Our local Sainsbury store very kindly donated some lunchbox inserts to help us reduce the packaging that we bring to school with our packed lunches. Why not see if you can reduce the amount of packaging you use in your packed lunch?
The Eco-reps will be surveying the amount of wrapping again later in the term so let's see if we can reduce our waste.
